Dear Parents,
Today we had a listening exercise. The children listened to two stories (only audio and no visuals - the purpose is to guide them to be more attentive to details via listening - to practise for listening comprehension) and answered some simple questions on their listening worksheet. They listened to the story of 'The Evil Mouse' (a French fable- in line with our current theme for our week) and also an old classical fable ('Dick Whittington and his cat).

I also collected the composition on 'A Frightening Experience' from those who were ready to submit today.

There is no homework issued today. Extension has been given to those children who needed more time to complete their writing.

Thank you.
Have a wonderful day!

14 July 2017

Dear Parents,

Today we have collected homework due today and shared some good examples with the class - possible endings to the story 'There is a boy under the bed'.  Those with valid reasons have been given extension for their homework till Monday for submission.

We have also learnt what are reflexive pronouns *myself, yourself etc" and how it was used. We then learnt nouns which can be used as adjectives e.g. the Science teacher ( Science is in itself a noun but it is also used as an adjective to describe the noun 'teacher' here). Printed notes have been issued. This is the second set of notes issued for the children on Grammar. The first being the use of 'Both. This is on 'Nouns as adjectives'. The children are to keep them in their green folder.

We then went through L.S. 3.1 to 3.3, and discuss how we can complete the worksheets. The children then started on their worksheets and were to complete them during this weekend as homework.

Thank you.
Have a wonderful day and a great weekend.

13 July 2017

Dear Parents,

Today the children explored and read two stories in class based on a different perspective. The first book was 'The True Story of the Three Little Pigs' which is a story retold in the voice of the Big Bad Wolf, showing his side of the story. Then we looked at the STELLAR reader ' There is a boy under the bed' which showed a monster being frightened because there was a boy under his bed. Once again, the children learnt how the story is being told from another perspective.

Their homework today is to provide a reasonable ending paragraph to the story as the story did not have a confirmed ending. We have explored various versions in class and the children were asked to write their proposed ending to the story on foolscap paper. I have attached the photographs that I have taken to show you the story that we have read twice in class, in the event that you may need to let your child review and recall to write the ending.

I have also collected yesterday's homework worksheets. (Note: For the children who have not completed their homework, I have asked them to submit tomorrow.)

P.S. I have also returned the spelling / dictation to your child for corrections and your signature. To be returned to me tomorrow.

Thank you.
Have a wonderful day!

Dear Parents,

As a number of children was absent from their first Spelling, and as some others did not do as well for their first Spelling, I have done a re-test for the children today. We also had unseen dictation, based on the text that we had read in class previously.

The children were also taught how to use 'both', and homework was issued today and due tomorrow. Homework issued: 2 worksheets (Vocabulary/Grammar, and Editing/Synthesis using 'both').

We also went through the Vocabulary crosswords, highlighting the meanings of these words, before we went through the answers. The crossword worksheets served as a ticket that the children submitted to go for their recess.

Thank you.
Have a wonderful day!

Dear Parents,

Today we spent time on reading and writing. Time was spent in the school library so that the children could be exposed to a variety of fiction books. They then completed a worksheet which guided them to review the book read, with comments on not only what the book was about, but also on the characters, as well as the parts of the book that they like or dislike.

Homework has been issued today and the children will be completing 2 sheets (4 pages) of worksheets on Vocabulary/Grammar/Editing and Synthesis. It is due tomorrow and we will review the worksheets in class.

Thank you.
Have a  wonderful day!

Dear Parents,

Today we reviewed grammar (phrasal verbs) and learnt new vocabulary via e-learning. The children noted down vocabulary that they were not familiar with, along with the meanings of the words, as part of their interactive learning process.

No homework issued this weekend as more than half the class will be busy with NDP rehearsal this Saturday once again.

P.S. I will be sending individual messages to you with regards to your child's progress and learning attitude thus far, sometime this weekend.

5 July 2017

Dear Parents,
Today we spent time looking into ideas for writing for Composition 6 (on a competition). We looked into various types of competition that the children could write on (e.g. cooking, singing, games and sports, chess) and reminded the children to use one of the pictures (e.g. to write on one of the pictures shown e.g. sports OR to write on a competition not shown in the picture BUT to ensure that there was the inclusion of the medal, the other picture given). They are to write at least 3 paragraphs and to SHOW and not tell for their writing.

We also explored a good piece of writing on the same topic and discussed how the writer for this piece of writing had made it well-written (from the interesting introduction and good conclusion, to good use of SHOW and not tell, as well as using good vocabulary).

Homework issued was to write Composition 6 on a piece of foolscap paper (and to leave a line after writing on each line) and staple behind the question paper. The children were given a deadline till 7 July to complete, but I will also accept the completed work if they are able to complete by tomorrow. This is to give your child ample time to develop the writing and submit a good piece of work.

We then looked into phrasal verbs for grammar, and will explore more tomorrow. We also listened to a story.

Thank you.

Have a wonderful day!

4 July 2017

Dear Parents,
Today we had Spelling 1 and we completed it on a Spelling sheet issued.

We then reviewed our homework done and focused on vocabulary and grammar. Today we learnt the use of 'to' with the base form of the verb, as well as reviewed the use of 'has' and 'have'. We then listened to two stories and had oral comprehension based on one of the stories.

The children were asked to recall a game or competition that they had taken part or seen so that they could write about it in the next lesson. We would be looking into writing the next lesson.

We ended the session with a word game, whereby each group tried to guess a word puzzle with a given category.

NO homework issued today for English. Homework will be issued tomorrow.
We have also collected Companion Booklet 11 today from those who had brought it. The few who had forgotten had been spoken to, and advised to bring for submission tomorrow.

Thank you.
Have a wonderful day!
